Still Life with Comics and Baseball Glove
"Chapter 7: 'Catch the Hero'" oil on canvas 12" x 12".
I'm getting the itch for baseball I guess. Dusted off the old glove for this still life.
This will be the last of this series for a little while. I was invited to show in a group exhibition at a Community College in Toledo, Ohio. I was asked by the Curator if I wanted to contribute a few pieces for a show that was titled "Diners". I said "are you kidding?" That is one of my favorite topics. More detail will come later. The show will be this August.

Stars and Monkey
I am back with one of my favorite subjects - Retro Food Packaging. I love those old cereal boxes and all their little toys that comes with them. As a kid, I would dig through those boxes to find the toy. I would then eat and stare at the cereal box for my entire breakfast. Who knew I would be painting them in my old age...lol.

New Work: Grandpa's Carpenter's Plane
If you happen to be around Sacramento California on February 13th please stop by for my opening with David Lobenberg at the Elliott Fouts Gallery. I have over 20 paintings never seen before on display including this lantern painting. I am hoping to make the trip but I am not sure if I can pull it off. Below are the details. If you need a sneak preview please contact Elliott Fouts at efgallery@sbcglobal.net.
Bellow are the details:
This summer I decided to start a new group of paintings that are very different in style and approach.
I sort of reinvented myself. I realize it may be difficult to tell in this digitally image (view the detail for a close up) but my approach to painting has changed dramatically. This new direction allows me to scratch, scrap, splatter and paint like never before. It is as though the paintings are really part of me. I get my hands into the work and move the pigment as if I am creating a sculpture.
The paintings revolve around objects, tools and still life that are from my father, grandmother and other objects that have some sort of unique and historically value to me and my life.
This still life of this old wood plane was left to my wife and I after my wife's Grandmother died a few years ago at the age of 103. She was very meticulous about all her antique items and this old plane was no exception. It belong to her husband, my wife's Grandfather, who worked on a farm in Ohio.
I will be posting more work from this new series in a few days.
This painting is on canvas and is 14" x 18". I used oil, acrylic and tempera to compose this painting.

Kawasaki Time!
In my quest to seek out old and dated equipment, I came across this rusty Kawaski motorcycle. I thought that the colors and the intricate details of the engine would make for an interesting composition. What I did not figure on was how much work it took to this painting. I never worked as hard on a painting but I enjoyed myself as well. Love all the wires and gears - I felt like I was building a bike from scratch.

The Green Lantern Returns!
This is the final version. I added some small changes.
Okay - I never grew up. Since I was a kid I guess I was obsessed with comics and super hero's. I can't tell you how many hours I spent drawing them as a kid - and I guess it now comes full circle. I started a new body of work that involves these great comics of my past. The Green Lantern is so cool! This painting was one tough painting to capture - very detailed. My neck is killing me. Still have more to do. I will let the Green Lantern dry and attempt to finish my next Super Hero - you will never guess who is next....ha ha.
