Egg Tempera Shell and Sand: 4" x 4" Vicini

I went back to one of my favorite mediums - egg tempera. This painting incorporates several different techniques that really are not visible in this photo. I used the egg tempera for the texture, oil and impasto for the shell. I painted in egg tempera for years before putting it aside for more forgiving medium of oil. I admired the work of Andrew Wyeth and Robert Vickrey. I guess I am old school at heart.

I painted several of these types of paintings which I hope to display in the coming days.

This is beautiful! I love the detail that you can get with egg tempera (though I've never tried it myself). I also like your icon paintings with the use of gold leaf, very nice!
