My * T * Fine - painting series #16

My*T*Fine!
Just the name of this pudding, intrigued me to paint this retro pudding box. The square canvas led me to paint it like a package. Reminds me of having "Mousse in a Minute", many times after dinner.

Maypo Pancake Mix - painting series #14

Mmm ....... waking up to the smell of pancakes on a Saturday morning! What more can you ask for? Found this retro pancake box and couldn't pass it up! I really love the yellows and red together and the animated character on the box. It notes: Great for Waffles. That was always the big debate. Pancakes or Waffles?

Heinz Ketchup Painting - painting series #10

This painting will also be included at the Elliott Fouts Gallery. The exhibition date has been scheduled for mid November of 2008. I have painted many ketchup bottles in the past but this compostiion was my wifes idea. She insisted I paint it with a swipe of ketchup on it. I have a ton of work ahead me. I intend to paint some really large paintings for the show. I will be exhibiting with a Gallery artist Tim White.

If anyone is interested, please contact the Elliott Fouts Gallery (Phone: (916) 736-1429). Limited Edition prints are also available.

Sugar Smack - painting series #9

This painting is another painting that will be included at the Elliott Fouts Gallery.

When I found this cereal box I knew that I had to paint it. You don't find cereal boxes like this anymore. So unique! I can't tell you how fun and strange it was to paint this painting. That clown is to die for! The lettering and layers in this rather large piece was a challenge in patience.

Retro Coke Bottle - painting series #7

This painting is number 7 in my series for the Elliott Fouts Gallery. My wife and I found some wonderful retro pop bottles at an antique store which stirred up some nostalgic memories. She placed an opener on top and thats how this idea came about. In addition, I found an old 7-up bottle which I will do next as its partner. This oil painting is large - at least for me - 16" x 20". This painting will be exhibited in an upcoming exhibition this year.

If anyone is interested, please contact the Elliott Fouts Gallery (Phone: (916) 736-1429).

Strawberry Nestle Quik - painting series #3

For the last few weeks I have been preparing for an upcoming exhibition. I will post more detail later. This painting has a companion, which I will post in a few days. This exhibition will consist of new work that is very different than any other work I have done. The show will revolve around food packaging that are nostalgia from my past and for all those who enjoy those wonderful food products that remind us of our youth. For as long as I can remember, when I see a box of cereal, a can of Nestle Quick, Twinkies and many other products, I recall my childhood and early school years. As long as I can remember, I always wanted to be Americanized. My parents arrived here in the States from San Marino Italy in the early 1950's and ever since I was a child I wanted to live the American dream. Don't get me wrong, I love my heritage and the culture that it brings. However, as I child growing up in Detroit, I grew up watching Gun Smoke, Get Smart and All In The Family. I wanted to be the true American child. I enjoyed the the American commercialization and the American breakfast and Dinner of Champions. This vision came with such fantastic products such as Captain Crunch, Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Ice Cream and many many other products. Some may think that it is commercializations, but to me they are a portal of art to something wonderful that I remember. To be a kid again. To sit at the breakfast table and read those ads on the cereal boxes, or to read about the enclosed toys or stare at those clever ads are part of my past. My kids have grown and those days of sitting at the breakfast table or sitting doing homework are no longer in site. Those days nay be gone but my memories and ability to paint these objects still live on. I hope to paint a large series of these paintings for this exhibition and will occasionally post them. As soon as a date is finalized, I will supply more detail on the exhibition. The details are still being worked out.
SOLD

If anyone is interested, please contact the Elliott Fouts Gallery (Phone: (916) 736-1429). Limited Edition prints are also available.

Cap'n Crunch - painting series #1

Lately, I've become a little nostalgic. The days of morning cereal with my kids have long been gone. As a kid, Cap'n Crunch cereal has been one of my favorites. The awesome imagery and colors of this design is really one of a kind in American produce and advertising. This semi contemporary painting borders on realism and pop art. Whatever the case, any excuse to capture the wonderful realism of this great America classic is fine by me.

Skippy Peanut Butter and Crackers

This large still life painting of a Skippy peanut butter and Ritz crackers was really a blast to paint. I rarely paint large paintings but when I do I really feel a freedom to express myself. My wife told me to put the bag of crackers on top. Great idea! This painting took awhile to complete but I finally finished it this weekend.

On my blog I have a demo on the painting process coming soon.

Kinder Toy Painting #1

Okay - I wanted to have fun here. I just get a kick out of these little Kinder toys. I always enjoyed painting toys. But because there really isn't a large demand for these types of paintings, I don't paint them too often. Every once and while I say what the heck - go for it.

Tag It ! My Turn !

I got tagged by Jelaine Faunce who is perhaps one of my favorite artist. I'm supposed to write 5 little known things about myself then tag 5 other artistst o do the same. Here it is. . .

  1. I have a technical degree in Electronic Engineering besides my Fine Art degree.
  2. I failed 1st grade because I couldn't speak English. My Parents are from San Marino, Italy and all I could speak was Italian. I also have dual citizenship.
  3. As a teenager I was held up at knife point working at a gas station. I gave the guy with the pony tail and mirrored sunglasses the money and I ran after him. I never got him nor did the police.
  4. While fixing up an old house I found $3,000.00 hidden inside an old kitchen cabinet. The money was enclosed in an old envelope over 50 years old. I thought about keeping it, but I chickened out and turned it over to the renters (it wasn't even their money) .
  5. After going to several garden walks over the past few years I have become a garden nut. I love to landscape and fuss with my lawn.
Here are the artist that I tagged:

Mick Mcginty
Jeff Hayes
Paul Hutchinson
Todd Bonita
Margaret Aycock

Light Bulb & Marbles II-Oil Painting

This painting is part of a new series that started a few weeks ago. I was digging around for some light bulbs for my Dinning room light fixture when I thought of an idea to paint these rather simple but yet intriguing subject.

I know that light bulbs have been a subject for many artist so I figure I would add my twist. I just love the subtle neutral colors contrasting again the high reflective and colorful objects on the dish.
