This past week I decided for my new years resolution I was going to focus on a more relaxed and enjoyable series. I realize that many of my regulars probably won't be interested in this style but my focus at this point in my life is try to be diverse and challenge my creative processes. This series that I have started consist of some of my favorite subjects - food and sweets! I really find them fun to paint and very relaxing compared to the very tedious style of high realism. I am able to experiment with colors, technique and textures in this series. I use impasto, stippling, glazing and many other approaches to my paintings. These three little paintings can be displayed together or individually. The idea is to capture something as simple as a jelly donut and make it art. Some say no some say "pass the coffee". Please enjoy and your comments are appreciated.

These two paintings are a continuing part of my small series of still life's and sweets. These two cupcakes were inspired by my wife who is always baking and cooking.

This still life painting is of two vibrant marbles - one of my favorite subjects. What makes this painting a little different that some of my other marble paintings is the light. The canvas plays an important role in the illiuminousity in this still life. The painting is rich in detail and vibrancy.

I couldn't pass up painting these three danish pastries. This composition - which extends to the sides, is a contemporary still life that depicts a rather interesting design - if you like pastries. The painting utilizes a rather free and in places impasto type painting technique to create an expressive style.
This composition fills every corner of panel. I painted this still life arrangement using thin transparent layers of color and built up the tonal quality to create a rather intense and almost hyper real image. The tomato slices steal the show!

This painting is larger than most of my other paintings (16 x 20) and was fun to paint. I felt like painting a variety of donuts and the arranging them in this composition. I thought is was a sweet idea.

This painting of a wine cork screw uses the realism of reflection and chrome to create the realism of the subject matter. I have always enjoyed painting chrome and here is no exception.

This still life painting illustrates a peanut butter jar and a bottle of homemade jam . You can't go wrong with peanut butter and jelly. This painting is a continuing series of what I call my 'contemporary pop art realism' series. The series is designed to focus on modern day food produce and to depict them as an art form. Unlike the popart from the Warhol days, my art takes the ordinary and combines both popart and realism still life to create fine art realism. It is kind of a 'mix bag'. If you are into realism and contemporary art, than this will fit your taste. Thanks for viewing.

Greetings,
My wife decided to create this composition for me. In this still life with asparagus and a knife, I wanted to create a solid composition. I have a small series that involve compositions such as this. The digital image is darker than the real painting. This painting will be up for auction Sunday when it is complete.View my auction

This still life painting includes a ketchup bottle, creamer and salt shaker. I incorporated an old car wallpaper on the wall behind the still life. In earlier paintings I painted an art nouveau female figure on the wall behind the still life. I made a little change here and added an old car wall paper to set the mode.

This little painting is part of my 'Paint it and Go!' series. I decided that I would start a small series that involves very quick, rich and loose style of paintings. I want to experiment more with color and use the brush stroke to create form. I feel like in the last 5 years that my paintings have been missing some exspressive qualities. The series will include many oridinary objects in a very simple composition. This painting of a slice of water melon, is a very popular subject matter and it is painted very often by artist. The painting is painted on 3/4" panel - it is ready to hang. I hope to post this on ebay this weekend. I realize that my client base my not be interested in this subject matter but I feel as an artist that I need to expand my style.

This landscape painting is a Diner that my Dad and I would frequent before he and I would go to work. A few years ago my Dad and I would fix up houses and resell them. My Father who is a very skilled carpenter really enjoyed going out to breakfast. It gave us time to talk about sports and politics. We don't do this much anymore - really miss that coffee and donuts in the morning.
I don't paint all that many of these types of paintings because of the amount of time involved in completing this very detailed and complex composition.
This painting was sold at auction in 2005.

Once again my fascination with marbles ! I have more of these coming this holiday season. I get many emails requesting these paintings from my ebay auction. I have so much fun doing these.
The blue and green are one of my favorite combinations. The red from the Jack of Hearts really pops out !
