This is my second painting of pancakes but this time I orders blueberries with them. I received many comments regarding my first pancake painting that I felt obligated to paint another. I really enjoyed painting the strong blue purplish blue berries. Good enough to eat !
This painting of three pears in a basket was inspired when the other my wife brought home some fantastic pears. I took them outside and situated them in the sunlight and began to sketch them. I really enjoy the cool greens against the warm tones with the strong bluish shadows.

I started a series of small paintings. These small paintings are meant to be fun, fresh, loose and rich with color and texture. I've always enjoyed painting these small little miniatures. They draw the viewer in and forces the user to stop and look. Compared to a very large painting which strikes you from a distant, these little paintings pull you toward it.
This very expressive still life illustrates a very retro coffee maker. My intention was to create textural surface with rich dark and colorful reflections. The composition is very traditional but the technique used is very untraditional.
This painting is very different from many of my other peices. For one thing, it is gigantic compared to many of my current paintings. I felt like getting a little risky and paint a little more freer with a larger canvas. Call me crazy ! This particular painting of a Diner is a stylish view of one of many great American Diners throughout the country.
This silver set contains a silver creamer, sugar container and an antique salt shaker. This fine silver piece belonged to my wife's Grandmother who was an avid antique collector. The painting is very abstract and painted in a lose fashion with very expressive and bold colors.
This painting was started before breakfast - can you tell. The joke at home here is that every Saturday my wife and I go out to eat at a local Diner and I always order the same thing - Pancakes. Since Spring is almost here, I felt the need to paint some flowers. I incorporated a cup of espresso coffee in the mix. I found the warm colors in the flowers enhanced the cool tones of the cup and the cool grays.
In this painting I tried a little different technique. Many of you are probably familiar with the old masters approach to painting. I painted the panel with several monochrome underpaintings and then after it has completely tried I glazed it with a local color. This approach requires patience, which I have little of, and extreme deligence. I must admit, this approcah is time consuming but the results are stunning. The transparent glaze allows for light to travel through layers of transparent colors and the impasto surface becomes more dynamic.
This painting contains two very cool retro tins that I discovered last month at a garage sale. I really like Folgers and animal crackers. I guess its not exactly gourmet but it hits the spot every morning. This painting is with its two tones of red play strongly on the texture of the tin and light. I painted the Folgers tin with several opaque layers to create a unique stylize surface.
Couple of weeks ago my wife suggested that I try to do several paintings of my pitcher and lemons series. I started this painting the same time as the one I completed several weeks ago but this one took me a little longer to complete. I just enjoy the play of light on this type of stylized and realist painting. Please enjoy.
I really enjoy painting these canned jars of fruit, vegetables and assortments. The canned mason jars are so cool to paint because there is glass, labels and a huge palette of colors. Another reason I enjoy this subject matter is the my Dad and I used to can tomatoes, pears and just about anything every Fall. Little but nostalgia...
This painting I used one of my wife's water goblets with Lemon and a set of Grandmothers antique silver salt and pepper shakers.
My wife and I last month stopped by a Garage sale where we discovered this cool Kellogg's cereal bowl. Any excuse to paint the Kellogg's roaster is good enough for me.
This very expressive and very loose painting is a jelly filled donut. I really enjoy these types of painting because of the expressive and impressionistic manner of the painting. I've always had a fascination with bugs and various insects. As matter of fact, early on in my college life, I majored in entomology. I guess the colors and designs of certain insects is almost an art form. This little painting of a ladybug is part of a series I did last year. Last Summer we had lady bugs every where. Our cats had a field day trying to catch them throughout the house.
My wife is on a kick of drinking a pitcher of lemon water a day. Not only is it good for her, but it keeps her active going to the rest room every half hour. (lol)I really enjoy the distortion of the lemon in this painting. The light and distortion from the glass creates a fascinating and almost abstract image.
Nothing beats a cool glass of cold imported beer. I tried to capture a more photographic effect with the out of focus background to offset the dark reflective beer bottle.
I've had several requests from people who wanted to see more of my water crystal paintings (the crystal pitchers and glasses are my wife's - she inherited it from her Grandmother). In this painting I used the cool colors of the napkin to create a more surreal abstraction in the distortion of the glass. This painting was not easy but I love the effect.

I can't seem to get enough of this subject. Marbles are perhaps the most enjoyable and fun subject for me to paint. The play of light, refraction and color makes this painting realistic and surreal. This painting, with its shade of blue, plays on the visual eye to give the impression of high reflective qualities. The air bubbles are my favorite!
This composition consist of an antique milk/creamer that my wife inherited from her Grandmother. We finally had a sunny day this past week when my wife and I sat down for coffee and notice the sunlight shinning through on the table top. The strong shadows and cool tones plays an interesting and dynamic composition.
This very different and almost abstract painting is a very close composition of a blender. The old blender with its chrome surface and very retro handle takes on an almost surreal and abstract design. I used all sorts of colors to develop this design.

This very cool painting (no pun intended) is a retro progress fan. This painting is very dynamic in the think and layered texture of the background and the contrasting smooth and reflective surface of the fan. This painting did not reproduce digitally very accurately and does not show all the detail that this painting contains. The contrasting colors, strong cool tones and the rich thick surface makes this painting one of my favorites.
This painting illustrates a variety Italian cookies. I'll never forget my Dad making a big deal when I was a kid how these cookies are to die for. These Italian cookies were always a special treat as a kid - and even to this day. Both my parents are from San Marino, Italy - you can guess the goodies that filled our house around the Holidays. The cookies are simple but makes for a delicious painting.

Okay, I gave in. I surrendered and painted a large piece (large for me 16" x 20"). I received numerous request from people who really enjoy my donuts by the dozen painting and figured what the heck - do another. This painting encompasses some of the similar donuts on my smaller painting. The painting is as fun as it looks. The painting is painted in a loose and impressionistic style. I wanted to keep the imagery looking free and creamy.
This painting of a 1950's (I think) blue Chevy is to me more intriguing in the unique composition than the painting itself. The painting plays on the various levels reflection and imagery. Many of my paintings are very nostalgic and very reminiscent of things of the past. I love to paint these old cars for their artistic design and chrome...
This painting on wood illustrates one of those objects that are totally retro. The color and the design is completely from the past. This pink cake mixer is one that many of us (old timers) who can remember our mother making cake and frosting for our birthday, holidays or just for fun. I've always been a sucker for cakes and sweets. I guess it reminds me of when we were young and free of responsibilities and inhibitions. I guess that sounds nostalgic, but that is what I am.

I've painted high realism toaster art and very impressionistic style such as this one. Sometimes I'm in the mood to be free and lose and sometimes I'm in the mood to be tight and highly realistic. This is now my third week in painting these small and intimate food paintings. When I paint these little jewels, I feel like a baker mixing the ingredients to create these little sweets. As a kid growing up I remember visiting my Uncle during Christmas and just indulging myself in cheesecake, cream puffs, cakes and twist cookies. My parents and family are from San Marino Italy, so there is never lack of goodies around. Now, my wife who is half Italian (Bari), continues to spoil me. Fortunately. my kids aren't really big on desserts and fine food (they prefer macaroni in a box and Chip Ohoy cookies) - good - leaves more for me...Mangiare !

This painting of a 1950's Blue Cadillac is one of my favorites car paintings. This painting uses various colors of blues and is highlighted with high reflections in the chrome. I've always been fascinated with automobiles in art and I will continue to use cars in my paintings. Cars are not my common subject but because the imaginary is so strong I can't help but to paint them.
